Empowering Families is a charity where volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress in their own homes, so helping to prevent family crisis or breakdown
Being a parent is great but for some it can be a struggle. Isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness and disability can make things difficult for parents.
Our Family Support Volunteers provide practical and emotional support to build the family’s confidence. Family support volunteers visit the homes of families for up to two hours per week and work with whole family to look at problems and help provide solutions. It can be establishing a routine for mealtimes, homework and bedtime. It could be .advice on healthy eating, or getting the parents to read to the children. The help we give is as wide and diverse as the families we meet.
Our volunteers need to:
- Have been a parent or have parenting experience
- Be able to give advice while remaining non-judgemental
- Have an enhanced criminal record check
- Attend our volunteer training course
Volunteering is rewarding and enjoyable. Use the skills and knowledge that you have gained to help a family.
